Chloe decided that after enjoying higher education so much after receiving her B.A. Honours in Dance that she wanted to go on and better herself and took on the challenge of a Masters degree in dance. All the way through Chloe's dance education she has focussed on pedagogy when it came to self chosen projects and she has involved the students of Studio 13 Dance school a huge variety of times in her practice based research projects! Even the parents have joined in!
Chloe's negotiated study project for the final of her BA degree was named 'Effective Teaching of Urban and Street Dance Within The Community'. In this project she wanted to close the gap with students and their parents when it came to dance, thus the community dance project was born where students were taught authentic foundation moves of Hip Hop over a period of 6 weeks and the final week the students taught their parents what they had leant. This project had great success! The students progressed hugely in their dance with some students being moved into a competition team within the school, the parents knew what their children were doing and some even found a new love for Hip Hop dance and also a huge success for Chloe too both academically and on a professional platform.
Chloe then went on to start her Masters course and wanted to further her knowledge when it came to teaching. Her very first project involved the students of Studio 13 Dance School yet again. Chloe choose to work with the 7-11 years competition team known as Wild Style. This project came about as Chloe felt that dance wasn't taken seriously especially within the education system and decided to delve deeper into this. She found that most schools now apply the concept of SEAL (SEL) or PSHE and wondered if she could incorporate these values into her dance teaching. She asked herself this question, 'When applying 'SEAL' effectively to dance pedagogy, how does this contribute to helping children aged 7-12 gain a more positive mental attitude?' Again this project had huge success! Chloe saw a huge difference in her students. The children were able to talk openly about how they were feeling in dance and became more empathetic towards each other and most importantly an increased feeling of unity and love between the group.
Chloe's projects didn't stop here! The module Frameworks and Practices was launched. She then decided that she was going to home in on the technique and style she used when she was teaching. Chloe named her teaching style 'Reflective Inclusive Urban Practice'. This project homed in on the models Chloe used when teaching and how she had adapted them to suit the students of Studio 13 Dance School.
Finally at the end of her Masters, Chloe has decided to involve the students of Studio 13 Dance School for one final time before she finished her degree! Chloe's final project is called "Entering the Virtual World - Teaching Urban Dance Online'. This project is a little self explanatory! Due to the Coronavirus pandemic ,Studio 13 Dance School had to take to the virtual world to keep the students dancing. We started off with online dance challenges each week and then eventually got our classes up and running online through the now well known platform named Zoom!
